The 10th of June, 1944, nazi Germans gratuitously attacked a French village in the Limousin region, not 20 km away from Limoges. This was 4 days after D-day so the Germans were beginning to lose speed.
A rumor has it they had planned to attack another village, but ended up attacking Oradour-sur-Glane accidentally. Accident or not, they veritably massacred the town killing 642 people. Apparently, they tried to render the victims unrecognizable so no one would be able to mourn them. Ironically, and naturally, the whole village has been a mourning place for over 6o years.
I realize it may be considered vulgar to post these pictures. I just want to give you an idea of what it looks like in that village.
